Online guarantee - is it just a registration of goods on the manufacturer's website or is it a document?

The Law "On Amendments to Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine" On Protection of Consumer Rights "regarding warranty obligations in electronic form" No. 1603-IX was signed by the President of Ukraine on July 1, 2021 (not yet published as of today) and applies only to "technically complex household goods".

A business entity can provide the consumer with access to operational documents for technically complex household goods (passports or any other document that is attached to the product) in electronic form on the official website of the manufacturer (clause 10 of article 7 of Law No. 1603-ІХ dated 01.07.2021). Is it like the seller of the store sends the buyer a link to the manufacturer's website by email, messenger? How will the purchaser be protected from changes to such an "operating document" by the manufacturer over time?

In the case of the provision of warranty obligations in electronic form, the manufacturer provides the opportunity to register the purchased goods on the official website of the manufacturer in the manner prescribed by him (clause 10 of article 7 of the Law of Ukraine No. 1603-IX dated 01.07.2021). At the request of the consumer, registration of technically complex household goods on the official website of the manufacturer and registration of warranty obligations in electronic form are carried out by the seller when selling such goods. At the request of the consumer, the seller must provide operational documents for technically complex household goods (passport or any other document that is attached to the product) in paper form (Clause 11, Article 7 of Law No. 1603-IX dated 01.07.2021). Will the buyer still have a guarantee as a document? How will the registration of the goods on the manufacturer's website be confirmed?
The procedure for warranty repair (maintenance) or warranty replacement of technically complex household goods is determined by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

Among the main advantages of this law for citizens and sellers, it is worth highlighting:

• Getting rid of a bunch of paper instructions, passports and coupons for equipment;
• Quick search for warranty data, of course, if the consumer has a place to store links or electronic documents for all purchased goods. And if the guarantee will still have the form of a document (pdf file, word, etc.), then you can store them in the InstaDoc electronic document management system for free, simply by uploading them to the document register. To sum up, you no longer have to turn the whole house upside down in search of the lost guarantee, you just need to go to your InstaDoc personal account.
