The development of the European digital jammer: what it is and why

The European Parliament has voted to create a legal framework for EU digital identification - the Digital Wallet Regulation ( Proposal official ), which is essentially a regulation amendingthe eDIAS Regulation . This accelerates the implementation of the European Digital Wallet (EUDI). The member states of the POTENTIAL consortium, including Ukraine, must present their national wallets to the EU within 24 months, and prototype testing must be completed by April 2025. After the introduction of the digital wallet, Ukrainians will be able to use Diya in Europe.

How will the European digital wallet work?

The EU ID Digital Wallet is a mobile product that will allow you to store and share personal data securely in electronic form. He will act both within his country and abroad. It will have common standards and technical characteristics for all EU countries.

Within the pilot project, POTENTIAL tests 6 different types of services:

1. Use of government services online
2. Convenient and safe online bank account opening
3. Permanent access to driver's licenses in a smartphone
4. SIM card registration
5. Use of electronic signature
6. Obtaining electronic medical prescriptions

After the introduction of the digital wallet, Ukrainians will be able to use Diya in Europe. And Europeans have their digital wallets in Ukraine.

The participation of the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine in the EU Digital Identity Wallet pilot project is supported by the European Union within the DT4UA project implemented by the Estonian eGovernance Academy.

Co-led by France and Germany, POTENTIAL is one of four large-scale pilot projects selected by the Commission to experiment with digital identity across Europe.

The European digital wallet will be introduced in the EU within 2 years.

The European Parliament supported the creation of a legislative framework and a prototype of the EU wallet. Now the member states of the consortium, including Ukraine, are obliged to issue their national EU wallets within 24 months.

As a reminder, Ukraine is participating in the development of a European digital wallet. Diya is a candidate for the implementation of the project, since the application performs most of the functions provided by the EUDI wallet. European experts noted the high quality of the application.

The European digital wallet will enable access to public and private services regardless of borders. With the help of a wallet prototype, POTENTIAL will test the effectiveness of its use in various directions:
